Ceramic fiber textiles are made up of alumina-silica ceramic fiber—making them capable of withstanding extremely high temperatures. Some ceramic fiber textiles contain reinforcement insert materials such as Inconel wire or continuous fiberglass filament to increase their durability and overall strength. These added materials can also increase the temperature rating.

These textiles have many benefits, including resistance to oxidation, corrosion, thermal shock, and chemicals. Ceramic fiber textiles are even resistant to hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid, and concentrated alkalis. It also provides excellent chemical stability. As a bonus, if exposed to water, ceramic textiles are able to fully recover and restore to their previous state after drying out.
Because of their ability to manage high temperature, ceramic fibers are useful to many different applications and industries. Applications for these textiles include:
  • Gasketing
  • High-temperature packing
  • Seals for furnaces, stoves, and more
  • Expansion joint packing
  • Foundries
  • Refineries
  • Power plants
  • Aerospace applications
  • Electrical insulation
  • Thermal insulation
Ceramic fibers come from mineral fibers (a range of amorphous and crystalline) and are known for their stability in extremely high temperatures. When they are not handled probably, ceramic fibers can irritate the eyes, skins, and even the upper respiratory system. These fibers are incredibly durable as they are pun together, creating an interwoven flexible material.

Ceramic fiber textiles can be cloth, tape, rope, woven, or braided. They can also breakdown under stress or mechanical vibrations.
